Safeguarding Statement

The Boathouse Church is part of the Co-Mission Churches Trust  (“CMCT”) and as such complies with the Charity's safeguarding policies.

CMCT and the leaders of all our Churches recognise the importance of our ministries with children and young people and adults at risk. We recognise the need to provide a safe and caring environment and are committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of those entrusted to our care.

We are committed to:

  • Following the requirements of UK legislation in relation to safeguarding children and adults at risk and good practice recommendations.
  • Exercising proper care in the appointment and selection of all those who will work with children and adults at risk, and ensuring that workers adhere to the agreed procedures of our Safeguarding policy.
  • Supporting our Safeguarding Coordinator in her work and in any action she may need to take in order to protect children or adults at risk.
  • Supporting all in the organisation affected by abuse.
We recognise:
  • Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.
  • That all safeguarding concerns and allegations must be reported to our Safeguarding Coordinator.
  • Children’s Social Services has lead responsibility for investigating all allegations or suspicions of abuse where there are concerns about a child; and Adult Safeguarding services have lead responsibility for investigating all allegations or suspicions of abuse where there are concerns about an adult at risk.
  • Where an allegation suggests that a criminal offence may have been committed then the police should be contacted as a matter of urgency.
We will review this statement and our Safeguarding policy and procedures annually. Our Safeguarding Policy has been approved by our advisers, Christian Safeguarding Services and a copy is available from the church office.

If you have any concerns for a child or adult at risk, please contact the CMCT Safeguarding Coordinator:

Planning a Visit?

If you're thinking about joining us one Sunday the following information should help you know what to expect.

Where and When

OasisAcademy

We meet at the Oasis Academy Putney (click here for how to find us) on a Sunday - our service starts at 10:30am but if you arrive 10-15 minutes before then you'll have time to find your bearings and be welcomed by a few of our church family (starting with someone from our Welcome Team who will greet you on the door).

Accessibility: The venue is wheelchair accessible and there are disabled toilets along the main corridor.

What does a typical Sunday look like?

Our service begins at 10:30am with a official welcome from one of the team. This is followed by a time of sung worship, led by our band, which often includes a kids song with actions to help all of us - from the youngest to the oldest! - engage with what we're singing about.  After the opening songs, the children head out for their own activities (more information about that here) while the rest of us take the chance to greet those sitting around us.  We'll then share some news about what's coming up in the life of the church before a member of the church family leads us in prayer.  We'll then hear the Bible read and preached, with the sermon connecting the timeless truths of the Bible with our modern lives, before finishing with a final song.  After the service (which typically lasts an hour to an hour and a quarter), we encourage people to stay for tea or coffee, share lives and continue to speak about God's word.
